Oh No!!!!!! The Halloween Candy's Posessed!!

Pat Robertson must be constipated again.  I just received a press release that he has (on his website) told people not to let their kids get any Halloween candy.  According to Robertson, it has been blessed by Satan and other "demons".

Click here to see the press release.

The article has since been removed from their site as of 7pm (eastern) today.

Red River Rivalry or Our Annual Traffic Nightmare

I don't know if you've ever tried to drive down I-35 from Austin to Dallas, but on a good day (with traffic and construction) you might make the trip in 3 1/2 hours.  I don't know what the drive is like from Oklahoma to Dallas down I-35.  I assume it is probably as bad.

Well, starting tomorrow morning (Friday 10/16), it will be a nightmare for those who are trying to get along I-35 and don't give a hoot about the Red River Rivalry.

I no longer live in Austin, but I made the mistake once of driving from Austin to Fort Worth on the Friday afternoon of RRR weekend.  It took me almost 6 hours to make the trip up I-35 to Hillsboro where I took the I-35 W split for Fort Worth.  Once on I-35 W, it took me about 30min to get to my destination.  I saw the backup on I-35 E to Dallas from Hillsboro and was relieved I was not going that way.

So, if you are planning on coming to Dallas for the weekend, you have my sympathy.  The only part of I-35 that will likely be traffic free is I-35 W.  You may want to think about using it to get to I-20 and then going to Dallas.

As for the game......well, I'm not a big sports fan.  And, even after living in Austin for 15 years, the excitement of the Longhorns never really rubbed off on me.  However, I will say this.........GO LONGHORNS!!!!

Mr. Boehner's Folly

Minority Leader John Boehner (R - OH) stated recently that he hasn't met anyone who is in favor of the "public option".  Has he left his office?

Mr. Boehner, I am an American citizen living in the state of Texas.  I am currently unemployed.  Until last week, I had no health care.  I was diagnosed many months ago with clinical depression and anxiety.  My family was helping out to pay for my doctor and medications (which were over a hundred dollars a month).  Finally after months of waiting (under our current system), filling out countless forms and submitting documents telling my entire life story I was able to get on to our state run system.

We desperately, need health care reform in this country.  Insurance companies need to be regulated (if not done away with).  The price of health care needs to come down (ex: $50 to $100 for an aspirin in the hospital).

I personally would prefer the "Medicare for all" approach.  We pay into the government like we do for Medicare and the government pays the health care providers.  We know it works.  It has for over 40 years.

Also, all health care should be not-for-profit.  Why should anyone profit off people being sick?

But, in light of all that, if we can't make these changes, a "public option" is what we need to help drive down the prices.

So, you see, there is at least one person who thinks we need it.  Now get out of your office and do what's right for the American public!

Dancing with the Indicted

Tom DeLay on Dancing with the Stars and surviving the first cut.  I guess stranger things have happened on TV, but at the moment I can't think of any.

Does any one remember that this man had to resign from the U.S. House of Representatves in disgrace when he was indicted in the not-do-distant past?

Do you remember that he is credited by many as the person who single-handedly screwed up the voting districts in the state by having the state legislature (predominately Republican) re-draw the states districts into weird, twisted areas in order to raise the number of Republicans in the House of Representatives?

Do you remember that he is the one who allowed lobbyists to get out of control by allowing them unheard of access to the halls of Congress through the "K Street Project"?

Everyone thinks it's so "cute" and "interesting" that he is on Dancing with the Stars.  After seeing his performances, I'm only sorry he can't be indicted for lack of talent and bad fashion (where are the fashion police anyway??)
